Tejwant Kaur is the co-founder and CEO of Jiya, an AI-powered dementia care company based in Sydney, Australia. Originally founded as Amara Dementia Care before rebranding to Jiya, the company builds an AI-powered behaviour support tool that gives carers of people with dementia real-time, non-pharmacological guidance for distressing behaviours such as agitation, aggression and refusal of care. Tejwant also serves as COO of Aged Care Specialist Medical Service, a geriatrician specialist clinic in NSW. She has over 12 years of experience in IT and more than a decade managing specialist medical practices, and holds BCA and MIT qualifications.
Tejwant describes the motivation for building Jiya as deeply personal. Her own aunt lived with dementia, and she watched carers struggle to connect with her. She has been working on Jiya since 2024, developing it alongside co-founder and clinical lead Dr Kawaljit Singh, a consultant geriatrician, and a proprietary HEART Framework for dementia care training and guidance.
Her work has been recognised with 1st Place in the Woman in Tech Innovation category at the Women Changing the World Awards 2026, where Jiya was also a finalist across Tech Innovation, Big Idea and Tech Leader of the Year. Jiya has entered an ethically approved two-phase research partnership with A/Prof Genevieve Steiner-Lim and her team at the NICM Health Research Institute, Western Sydney University, to evaluate its usefulness in real aged care settings.
