Chanel Clark, founder of The Marketing Club (TMC), appeared on episode 392 of a YouTube podcast hosted by Daniel, titled 'Why Community is the Future of Marketing.' The conversation centred on an idea Chanel has built her work around: that community functions as a genuine growth engine for marketers, not simply a nice-to-have.
That perspective comes directly from how TMC itself began. Chanel started the community while on mental health leave from burnout, after feeling isolated, unsupported and often alone as an early-career and frequently solo marketer. What began as a Slack-based online space has since grown into something far broader, adding regular networking events, educational sessions, a newsletter, a mentorship program and a podcast. The community now serves marketers across Australia and New Zealand.
Chanel has described TMC as 'a lifeline' in its earliest days, when it was just her 'trying to make sense of my career again.' She believes marketers want connection, accessibility and real value rather than gatekeeping and ego-driven events. That belief underpins the argument she brings to the episode, that connection is central to how marketing works and how marketers themselves sustain their careers.
The idea of community as the future of marketing fits a consistent through-line in Chanel's public work. In other interviews she has shared her view that the brands that win are the ones that invest in connection, consistency and brand-building over time. It is a position that applies as much to how she has built TMC as to the advice she offers other marketers.
TMC has grown considerably since its founding, and Chanel led its formal expansion into the Australian market across Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne in June 2025. Her appearance on the episode reflects where that work has taken her thinking: that the connection she once needed for herself is now something she sees as a foundation for how marketing grows.
