Choosing home birth

Reasons why I chose to birth our daughter at home, in a pool and with private midwife’s that cost big bucks but are worth every cent…

Well for starters, the advocacy of my beautiful friend @elizabethkate._._ who provided resources that lead me to be more educated about birthing in a hospital settling. #beyondgrateful and I promise to now spread that knowledge to anyone who would like it 💛

The knowledge I gained from the research was scary, confronting, disturbing although unfortunately a high reality in a lot of peoples birth stories.

@australianbirthstories is an incredible podcast where you can listen to fellow Australians tell their stories. This podcast helped me identify where things can go wrong and right in pregnancy.

I quickly learnt that inductions are the first step to potentially being put in a dangerous situation and the hospitals push these for a variety of reasons, the main one being if you or baby is unhealthy in anyway and at any time throughout your pregnancy and even during birth.

I was low risk and healthy throughout my pregnancy so I was never inflicted with the fears of a potential induction; my answer was no but would be lightly considered at 42+4 weeks depending on my body and babies health.

Staying healthy was mine and Mitchs goal everyday, especially when my iron dropped due to travelling mostly vegetarian for a few months. I was at a risk for an infusion which I would have done but wanted to avoid it due to a potential reaction and thanks to Mitch and his love for cooking, we were able to naturally rise my iron again 🥹💪

Anyways, when we told people we have plans to birth a home, with midwifes, we faced a lot of questions about fear of what happens if something goes wrong etc. totally understandable considering you have probably heard of a lot of births going wrong, when really, having a natural home birth was my way of preventing any possible interventions.

I was more afraid of the hospital system.

So, I focused on knowing what my body would go through during labour and how to work with the pain.

I wanted this birth for those mummas that were told they couldn’t.

I ensured I held no fear 💛 . #naturalhomebirth
