On Instagram, where he posts as @realmattwright, Matt Wright connects directly with the audience that has followed his path from used-car entrepreneur to investor in early-stage founders. The platform offers a window into the story of a Brisbane-based businessman whose work has drawn coverage across Australian and international business media.

Matt founded the used-car business Cars4Us in Brisbane in 2019. From a start of four people and a seven-car warehouse, the company grew to roughly 200 employees, a Brisbane warehouse holding about 1,000 cars, and around $500 million in annual revenue. Roughly six years after founding it, Matt sold MCT Automotive Group, the parent company of Cars4Us, to Toyota Tsusho Corporation for $120 million. He was 33 at the time of the sale.

Matt came to Australia from the UK, with one report describing him arriving as a 20-year-old backpacker who fell in love with the country. His online presence now reaches a following interested in how that early arrival turned into a business of national scale. Matt says he routinely worked 80- to 100-hour weeks while building Cars4Us, and he does not intend to retire. He plans to stay with the company for a couple of years during the Toyota Tsusho transition while continuing to run businesses.

That forward-looking focus has taken shape in Founder Finds Future, an investment initiative under which Matt plans to invest $1 million each into three founders, one in Australia, one in the UK, and one in the US, alongside mentorship. Matt describes the initiative as the kind of help he wishes he'd had, and he explains that $1 million per founder was chosen because anything less "doesn't move the needle." Applications open on 1 June 2026, with the programme open to founders aged 21 to 35 and winners receiving a year of mentorship from Matt.

For the people following along on Instagram, Matt's feed sits alongside that next chapter. It documents the experience of someone who has built and sold a company at scale and now sees an opportunity to put capital and time behind other founders at the start of their own.
