Starting a business is easy but creating content on social media to market your business is a whole other world, one I’d personally like to explore in a way that doesn’t make me feel like I’m wasting my time over.

I’ve been on the internet for as long as I can remember but having a business means you switch from WANTING to be online to HAVING to be online

I have been on the internet for as long as I can remember. Posting, filming, sharing, documenting what was in front of me. For years it was something I wanted to do. Then I started running businesses, and i realised the barriers for someone who may spent 10000000s on starting a busines, making a unique product oor offering their services because they are an expertise in their firld. You go from wanting to be online to having to be online, and those are not the same activity even though they look identical from the outside.

That is the part people underestimate. Starting a business is the straightforward bit. You have the idea, the product, the thing you actually know how to do. Then you discover that marketing it on social media is a whole other world, with its own rules, its own formats, its own pace, and its own way of making you feel like you are falling behind. The business you built sits to one side while you try to feed a feed.

What I kept coming back to, even back then, is that I did not want to explore this in a way that felt like wasting my time. That is the real objection. Not that content is hard, but that so much of the effort disappears the moment you hit post, and you are expected to start again tomorrow from nothing.

After years of making content for businesses through Pretty Cool Marketing, I started to see that 'post consistently' is hiding an entire operation underneath it. Filming, editing, hooks, captions, design, scheduling, repurposing. It is not one task you are bad at. It is a system you never got handed. The problem was never that founders have nothing to say. It is that having to be online, every day, with no system behind it, turns something you used to enjoy into a second job.
