What Happens to Old Social Media Posts?

Boat update because i can republish my posts as web articles with CULO 😂

Old social media posts don't disappear in the sense of being deleted, but they become practically invisible.

Old social media posts don't disappear in the sense of being deleted, but they become practically invisible.

Traditonal platform stops showing them to anyone, the context that made them meaningful fades and unless someone scrolls back years into a profile, the post might as well not exist. The content survives technically. It dies in terms of usefulness.

This matters more than most founders realise, because a huge amount of genuinely valuable material is sitting in that dead zone right now: old customer stories, product explanations, lessons from a business that no longer exists, travel content that captured a real decision being made. None of it is gone. All of it is buried.

Why does a social media feed treat old posts this way?

Feeds are built to reward recency, not relevance. The algorithm's entire job is to decide what to show right now, and a post from eighteen months ago has almost no mechanism to resurface unless someone actively searches a profile and scrolls. There is no real archive layer sitting underneath a feed, only a chronological pile that gets harder to access the deeper it goes. A feed is a distribution tool. It was never designed to be a knowledge system, which is why a post can be genuinely useful and still functionally lost within months.

How do you figure out which old posts are actually worth rescuing?

1. Instagram and facebook archives post and well you may have your best content captured hidden in old story posts 2. Snap chat memories about to disappear? import them into the culo village and each post will turn into an individual web article. publish your story and educate your audience from what you have already captioned 3.A podcast episode you did on someone else channel? add the link to the culo village to solidify it's ownership.

Other platforms make you chase the algorithm or create new content

CULO helps you edit with culo creatives coming to canva soon and the culo village helps you structure every peicce of content ever added to closed platforms as individujal web articles.

Anything that can be important is worth pulling out of the feed and giving a permanent, findable home.

I have a post from January 2024 sitting in my own feed that's a good example of exactly this problem. It's a casual 'boat update' with Mitch, half a joke about manifesting a new sailing boat together, tagged to his account.

On its own it looks like nothing, just a couple having a laugh about a future boat. But it sits inside a much longer thread of our actual life: the travel we'd already done, the Gibb River Road, Stagger Inn Adventures, and the fact that we've always built businesses around the life we wanted rather than building the life around whatever business we happened to have.

That post isn't the whole story. It's a fragment of it. And right now, like most old posts, it has no way of connecting back to the rest of the story or explaining why it matters.
